Read about Dr. Tasha Wilson’s involvement with NOMV and the Seacoast New England chapter she helped to form.
From a young age, Dr. Tasha Wilson, DVM, was passionate about caring for animals. After earning her Bachelor’s in Science from St. Anselm College in NH, she fulfilled her lifelong dream by graduating from Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada, in 2005. Dr. Wilson spent several years in general veterinary practice before exploring alternative therapies, which would ultimately broaden the options she could offer in pet health care.
“I believe in conventional veterinary medicine, but I also wanted to provide integrative therapies for pets that could benefit from a broader approach to health and healing,” she explains.
Her journey into integrative pet care began with a focus on veterinary nutrition, attending workshops, consulting with board-certified veterinary nutritionists, and visiting pet food manufacturing facilities. This expertise allows Dr. Wilson to educate clients on how customized pet nutrition can support overall health, longevity, and vitality.
In 2016, Dr. Wilson earned certification in Medical Acupuncture for pets through Colorado State University. This evidence-based therapy provides additional options for pain relief, healing, and wellness, complementing traditional veterinary treatments.
“If I would have recommended it for my own pet, why would I not offer it to my patients? It’s a great tool to help control pain, and other ailments in pets”.
By 2018, Dr. Wilson had expanded her skills with certification in pet rehabilitation therapy through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. This therapy benefits pets with mobility issues, especially older pets and those recovering from injuries, by improving pain relief, strength, balance, and flexibility.
After two years of operating a mobile pet acupuncture clinic, Dr. Wilson started a “brick and mortar” in Somersworth, NH, veterinary clinic in 2018. Her practice grew and in 2022, Dr Wilson and her husband , Ken Wilson, built their “Acupetvet home” in Dover, NH.
At Acupetvet, we provide comprehensive integrative health care, including acupuncture, pet rehabilitation, and joint supplement counseling, all in a comfortable setting…
” I know pets can become anxious in veterinary settings so I made the lobby area welcoming with dog beds, and leather chairs; and each treatment room looks like a living room. The dogs enjoy their dog beds, and the cats sit on a comfortable ottoman as the sun basks down on them during their treatment.”
Lynn has been a physical therapist for many years. She realized in high school that she wanted to work in a profession where she could help people. Upon researching various medical fields, Lynn became interested in physical therapy and was intrigued by the prospect of helping people regain the movement often taken for granted. Lynn received her degree from the University of New England in Biddeford, ME in 1991 and worked in acute care, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing home settings in New York and California prior to relocating to New Hampshire in 1995.
Lynn worked at Concord Hospital for 24 years treating patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric with orthopedic, neurologic, and cardiopulmonary conditions as well as those with general medical and surgical diagnoses in the acute care setting. Lynn grew up with dogs and has had a variety of pets as an adult so the field of canine rehabilitation has always been an interest. As her dog aged, she wished there was more she could do to comfort her and began thinking more about pursuing canine rehab as a career.
In the fall of 2019, Lynn met Dr. Wilson, who shared her experiences as well as let Lynn observe some sessions. This really sparked her interest in becoming certified so she began the certification process through coursework with the Canine Rehabilitation Institute.
Lynn starting working at Acupetvet in January 2020 as Veterinary Assistant and Service Coordinator. She received her Canine Rehabilitation Certification in July 2021 and transitioned into her therapist role.
“I love helping pets regain their best function so they can enjoy playing and interacting with their humans again. It’s important to me to make connections with the pets, but also with the pet owners as well. My favorite part is when an initially fearful dog comes in after a few sessions and is wagging their tail and greeting me with happy dances. It’s like they are saying “Thank you, I feel better, and I trust you.” It’s the best job ever!”
